Omaha Venue Demolition Under Way

The destruction of the  in Nebraska began Aug. 16, and is scheduled to be complete before 2017.  
Closing in 2014.

The original contractor, DeNovo Constructors Inc. of Illinois, ran into financial problems in March, and the work is now being done by Spiritas Wrecking Co., based out of St. Louis.

The original contract was worth $3.1 million. Spiritas also has the rights to the scrap materials left over after the process.

The 10,960-capacity venue has been around for 62 years, hosting local and regional events related to politics, music, sports and much more. Offices, apartments and businesses are scheduled to take the place of the demolished auditorium, according to the Omaha World-Herald.
