Eliot Sumner Announces Fall Tour

The English synthpop singer is supporting Information, her first full-length album released under her birth name. The LP was released in January via Island Records as the follow-up to her 2010 album attributed to I Blame Coco.
Consequence of Sound examined the track “Species,” which was also included on a 2015 EP, and declared, “Her low voice sounds damning, like a relic from a British goth nightclub. She’s traded in the pop sensibilities of her youth for the darkness and worries of adulthood with excellent results.”
As for her voice, a review from All Music notes that it’s easy to hear the family connection to the artist born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner.
“Whether she cares to distance herself from her famous father or not, Eliot Sumner sounds so uncannily like Sting that it’s difficult to squelch the comparisons. Her full-bodied and smoky voice is striking and undeniably similar, and yet she manages to elevate herself beyond easy comparisons with quite a debut album.”
The review adds, “Throughout this solid debut – free of distractions and associations – Sumner sheds her past musical experiments and proves that she’s more than just a famous name.”
Sumner is joined by her band made up of Nick Benton on guitar, Jan Blumentrath on synthesizer and Adam Gammage on drums, according to an announcement from The Bowery Ballroom.
“There’s a lot more organic energy with this group. It feels like a nucleus,” Sumner said.
The fall tour kicks off Sept. 27 with a performance at the Armani New York flagship store, which is fitting because Sumner is featured in Armani Exchange’s fall 2016 campaign.
