More INXS Projects

At least four INXS projects are in the pipeline, says the band’s creative manager Chris Murphy. These will be funded by INXS’s label Universal Music Group, in a joint venture with Murphy’s Petrol Records (which has the multi-platinum act for Australia and New Zealand), announced Aug. 16.

“From musicals to movies we have the future of music covered together,” Murphy announced. Projects include a documentary of late singer Michael Hutchence, helmed by its music video director and film maker Richard Lowenstein, and produced by Passion Pictures, which made “Searching For Sugar Man.

” INXS – The Musical, based around the band’s songs, will be executive produced by Murphy and INXS guitarist Tim Farriss. The duo tapped a New York-based director for the project.

For these projects, Murphy has revived the family’s 55-year old MMA theatrical agency, set up by his father Mark in the early ‘60s. At age 16, Murphy took over MMA after his father’s death in 1969, and turned it into a rock agency. He managed INXS from late 1979 to June 1995, at the peak of their international success.
