Gwar Set To Slay In The U.S.
The four new October dates are all in succession on the East Coast Oct. 27-30. Those dates are being supported by Mutoid Man and Darkest Hour, though there is still a TBA set for Oct. 29 in Brooklyn.
In the previous month there is a successive five night stint, starting in Cincinnati Sept. 14 and ending Sept. 18 in Buffalo at
In case you haven’t heard, the band’s shtick is that they are alien warriors set to conquer earth, and their show blends music with on-stage battles and displays of dominance over the audience. The group has been doing this for over 30 years now.
Gwar is known for the over-the-top violence and crude humor that characterize its live shows. The group has mock battles with public figures on stage and does battle with monstrous creatures.
The group took a major blow in 2014 when frontman Dave Brockie, who had been portraying the character of Oderus Urungus since the ’80s, died of a reported heroin overdose. The group’s guitarist Cory Smoot, who portrayed Flattus Maximus, died of a heart attack in 2011.
Gwar was actually sued for $1 million by Brockie’s father, William, last year. In that matter, Brockie accused the group of stealing the late singer’s remains and possessions.
