Council OKs Mid-South Lease

The Memphis, Tenn., City Council voted unanimously Aug. 23 to lease the abandoned Mid-South Coliseum to the Wiseacre Brewing beer company for redevelopment.

The local craft brewery has up to six months to decide whether to go forward with its plan to put a brewery on the first floor of the Coliseum and sublease the rest. The Coliseum was built in 1963 – long before the FedEx ForumThe Pyramid – and played host to concerts by The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, and others.

It also hosted professional wrestling and American Basketball Association and University of Memphis Tigers games before closing in 2006.
