Warren Haynes, Alison Krauss, More Honoring Jerry Garcia With Concerts

Promoter Blackbird Presents is putting on two different shows in October to honor the legacy of Jerry Garcia, the legendary guitarist of Grateful Dead. Artists scheduled to perform include Warren HaynesThe Avett Brothers, and Jamey Johnson.

The events will be held at different venues in the Maryland/Virginia region. On Oct. 14 the “Jerry Uncovered” performance will be at  in Washington, D.C. That show will include Haynes, Alison Krauss, Johnson, John MedeskiRaymond Weber, and Don Was showcasing material from throughout the Garcia’s legendary career.

The following night, Oct. 15, will see the “This Is 30!” show at the  in Farifax, Va. That show will feature The Avett Brothers and special guest Warren Haynes playing a full Jerry Garcia Band set which was originally performed in 1986.

Blackbird put on a similar show last year, titled “Dear Jerry: Celebrating The Music of Jerry Garcia.” That gig, which was recorded for a film and live album, featured the likes of Phil LeshBob WeirEric ChurchDavid Grismanmoe.Grace PotterWidespread Panic and more performing music in honor of Garcia at  May 14 last year. The recordings of that show will be released Oct. 16.

“Listening to him just makes us feel happy to be alive – to hear his music,” Blackbird Presents CEO Keith Wortman said regarding why he puts the shows on. “If I do nothing else in my career, I will continue to present Garcia’s music in ways we could only dream about. It’s the least I can do and it’s my way of thanking him.”
