Bill Kirchen & Austin De Lone Unite Forces

Bill Kirchen and Austin de Lone embark on an outing in support of their latest album, “Transatlantica.” The trek criss-crosses the U.S. with stops in Philadelphia, Houston and Minneapolis.

Kirchen and de Lone have been collaborating for more than 40 years. Kirchen is dubbed as the “Titan of the Telecaster,” and was co-founder of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, an Americana group before Americana became a thing.

De Lone dropped out of Harvard to move to London and start Eggs Over Easy. The band is considered the Godfathers of British pub rock, which paved the way for punk and new wave.

Transatlanticana is a mix of Americana, roots and rock. The LP dropped this month via Red House Records and features a tribute to Merle Haggard, “Hounds of the Bakersfield,” and a cover of Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin.”

Bill Kirchen will make a solo appearance at the National Folk Festival in Greensboro, N.C., Sept. 9-11 and in Bordentown, N.J., Sept. 23. He also has shows scheduled with Jim Lauderdale in Buffalo, N.Y., Sept. 19 and with long-time pal Commander Cody in Huntington Beach, Calif., Oct. 8. Austin de Lone doesn’t appear on these dates as it stands.

However, the duo is slated to perform together for the rest of the gigs including the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco Sept. 30-Nov. 2. Lineup and set times have yet to be unveiled for the event.
