Something New From The Strokes’ Nick Valensi

The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi is hitting the road next month with his new project, CRX. The outing includes a couple of headlines gigs and three nights supporting Beck.

Along with Valensi on guitar and lead vocals, CRX features Richie James Follin (keyboards), Ralph Alexander (drums), Jon Safley (bass) and Darian Zahedi (guitar).

The Los Angeles-based band’s debut album, New Skin, is due out Oct. 28 via Columbia Records. The LP was produced by Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and mixed by Andrew Scheps, who has worked with Johnny Cash, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Adele.

CRX made its live debut earlier this month at The Hit Hat in Los Angeles.

Sterogum’s Tom Breihan writes, “Based on all the footage that’s popped up online, their sound is a muscular and melodic form of garage-rock. Valensi sings lead, and for someone who’s been so silent in the background for so long, it’s impressive to see how he handles his business vocally.”

You’ll get the chance to catch CRX next at the following locations:

Sept. 17 – West Hollywood, Calif., Troubadour
Sept. 19 – Chicago, Ill., Schubas Tavern
Sept. 20 – Columbus, Ohio, Express Live!
Sept. 22 – Bloomington, Ind., Indiana University Auditorium
Sept. 23 – St. Louis, Mo., Peabody Opera House

CRX supports Beck Sept. 20-23.

Tickets for the Troubadour go on sale Sept. 2. The rest of the dates are on sale now.
