Gregg Allman Announces Return To The Stage

When Gregg Allman broke the news to fans last month that he was calling off 10 weeks of dates to undergo surgery, his PR rep said he was due back on stage Oct. 29. It turns out that the Allman Brother is doing so well that he’s returning a bit sooner.

Mark your calendar for Sept. 25 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo.

Allman is appearing at the iconic outdoor venue as part of his own Laid Back Festival. He plans to put on an acoustic set with lead guitarist and music director Scott Sharrard ahead of headliner ZZ Top. The event also features Richie Furay Band, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Gabriel Kelley, Lucie Silvas, and Levon & People’s Blues of Richmond. Tickets are available now.

“I just can’t wait to get back out there,” Allman said. “I’ve gotten so stir crazy these last few weeks. I feel best when I’m traveling and playing. That’s what keeps me going, and there’s no better place to start than Red Rocks.”

Rather than going into details about his condition, last month’s announcement simply said that Allman needed “immediate surgery” and was forced to cancel tour dates “due to serious health issues.”

This week’s media alert says the musician “has been given a clean bill of health from his doctors and has been given the ok to get back to performing live.” Whatever he was going through, we’re just glad that he’s headed back on stage.

After playing Red Rocks, Allman will appear at Atlanta’s edition of Laidback Fest Oct. 29 at Lakewood Amphitheatre with a lineup featuring ZZ Top, Blackberry Smoke, Michelle Malone and more. Allman’s November plans are devoted to his annual residency at New York’s City Winery.
