Fans flock to Lollapalooza Berlin Sept 10, which had headliners Radiohead, Kings of Leon, and Major Lazer.

The promoter told Pollstar that “Lollapalooza 2016 was exactly like we had pictured it.” Some 70,000 people per day visited Berlin’s Treptower Park to witness Kings Of LeonMajor Lazer as well as Radiohead’s only concert in Germany this year – which has since been hailed by the press.

“It was a big, colorful, peaceful, enchanting festival. It was worth all of the energy we invested together with our great team over the past 12 months,” Szép said. A lot of that energy went into convincing the council and locals of staging Lolla Berlin in the scenic Treptower Park. In the end, permission was granted.

“Much respect and many thanks to all residents in and around Treptower Park, who understood our plans and placed their trust in us,” Szép said.

Still, Treptower Park was a one-off. For next year, Szép and her team will have to find a new location.

The premiere was staged at Berlin’s former airport Ramstein, which is currently used as shelter for refugees. Finding an alternative was an intense hassle. Szép was looking at 11 different sites, such as the new, still incomplete airport BER, the Karlshorst trotting course and Maifeld.

She’s confident to find a location for next year, though.

“Berlin and Lollapalooza are like twins. They belong together. We as promoters are so happy and grateful that we were able to organize our Lolla Berlin as a one off in this beautiful location. We’ll soon announce where our journey in Berlin is going to take us next,” Szép said. “One thing’s for sure: we will stay in Berlin. We love Berlin.”
