Yoshiki of X Japan Announces Shows With Tokyo Philharmonic

Yoshiki, classically trained member of iconic Japanese rock act X Japan, will take the stage with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra over two nights in New York, as well as in Japan and Hong Kong.

The NYC shows will be Jan. 12-13 at . Those gigs will feature Yoshiki performing his original compositions with the world-class Orchestra.

In addition to the Big Apple, Yoshiki will play Dec. 5-8 in his native Japan. Dec. 5 is in Osaka’s , and Dec. 6-8 will be in Tokyo at International Forum.

The last stop on the renowned pianist and percussionist’s world tour is the Hong Kong Asia World Expo Dec. 29.

Speaking on the opportunity to play , Yoshiki said: “I was fortunate enough to play  two years ago with my band X Japan. Now I’m playing Carnegie Hall as a pianist with Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, which was another dream of mine. Words can’t describe how honored I am to be performing at such a prestigious venue with an amazing orchestra.”

Yoshiki has not been on the road for a proper international tour since 2014. He also released a solo album titled Yoshiki Classical in 2013. That album featured production from the late George Martin.

X Japan recently completed a world tour and is recording for a 2017 album in Los Angeles. The group is billed as the most successful rock band in Japanese history, and is the subject of an upcoming documentary titled “We Are X.”  Check out the trailer, which also teases some parts of Yoshiki’s story.
