Wild Nothing Announces Run Of Fall Dates

Wild Nothing is cooking up something for October and November. The indie rock/dream pop act has announced U.S. headline dates to go along with festival appearances including Treasure Island and Beach Goth Party.

Wild Nothing is otherwise known as multi-instrumentalist Jack Tatum. The Blacksburg, Va., native is touring in support of his project’s third studio album, Life of Pause, which was released in February. Tatum played the majority of the instruments on the LP, with Peter Bjorn & John’s John Eriksson and Pelle Jacobsson helping out on drums and Brad Laner contributing guitar on some tracks.

Tatum tours with a group of musicians including bassist Jeff Haley and guitarist Nathan Goodman.

He told Pitchfork that while working on Life Of Pause he was listening to Philly soul, artists influenced by soul like Todd Rundgren, and film music.

“I desperately wanted for this to be the kind of record that would displace me,” Tatum said in a statement. “I’m terrified by the idea of being any one thing, or being of any one genre. And whether or not I accomplish that, I know that my only hope of getting there is to constantly reinvent. That reinvention doesn’t need to be drastic, but every new record has to have its own identity, and it has to have a separate set of goals from what came before.”

Based on NME’s review of Life Of Pause, it looks like Tatum achieved his goal of reinvention.

“Such confident, experimental songwriting points to a rebirth for Wild Nothing, and means Life Of Pause can be considered alongside indie records like Tame Impala’s Currents and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Multi-Love. Both came out last year, signaling a shift in sound and a significant step forward for their makers. This record should do the same for Jack Tatum.”
