Sting To Play Australian AFL Grand Final
It is believed to be the British singer’s only Australian performance this year. In 2015, MCG audience was 110,000 while the Australian telecast last year drew 2.64 million, the biggest TV audience of the year. It is telecast around the world, including in the United States on ESPN, Canada on TSN, through Europe on Eurosport2, the Asia Pacific via Australia Plus, and the Indian subcontinent by the Australian Network.
AFL chief executive officer Gillon McLachlan said, “Sting is much loved the world over, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that he will join us on the biggest day of our year.” The British singer, who will be joined on the day by singer-songwriter Vance Joy and rock band The Living End, added, “It’s a great honour to be invited to perform at the biggest day in Australian sport. I always have such an enjoyable time in Australia and I’m very much looking forward to returning to Melbourne next month.”
Previous music acts performing at the Grand Final, booked through Frontier Touring, have included Lionel Richie, Tom Jones, Ed Sheeran, Meat Loaf, Chris Isaak and Bryan Adams, with Aussie acts including The Temper Trap, Paul Kelly, Hunters & Collectors, Jet, and Birds of Tokyo.
