Luukko Joins Arena Alliance

Peter Luukko has been tapped by Oak View Group as co-chairman of the newly announced Arena Alliance.

He’s been executive chairman of the NHL’s Florida Panthers since February 2015, and will continue in that role concurrently. Luukko was president of chief operations officer for Comcast-Spectacor for 25 years prior to that, where he oversaw operations of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey and 76ers basketball teams.

The initial 22 charter members of the invitation-only Arena Alliance were announced Sept. 19 by Tim Leiweke, an OVG co-founder along with Irving Azoff. Luukko represents a major “get” by the duo, having headed a full-service facility management group with buildings across North America.

“Tim, Irving and I have been dear friends for decades and have been talking about what is today the Arena Alliance for years,” Luukko said. “Working with them both is a highlight of my career, as is the opportunity to partner with each of the arenas in the Alliance who all bring something very special to the table.” Luukko will head up operations of the Alliance with the goal of driving revenue, sponsorships and live event content to member arenas.

“Peter is a great friend and a titan in our business who’s led the success of many of the world’s most iconic arenas’ sports teams,” Leiweke said. “It’s an honor to have him on board as a partner and there’s no one better suited to bring the vision of the Alliance to life.”
