Less than a week before he was to perform in Japan, Chris Brown‘s visa was denied by Japan’s Ministry of Justice due to his ongoing assault case.

Brown was scheduled to play the Tokyo International Forum Sept. 26-27, but according to promoter Creativeman Productions, the shows were “postponed … due to a logistical visa issue.” The shows have yet to be rescheduled.

Brown was arrested in August on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a woman called police and accused him of pulling a gun on her at his California home.

Brown has denied the charges and the arraignment has been pushed back so that prosecutors can gather evidence. For that reason, as well as the fact that Brown has been in legal trouble before, it is believed the Japanese government decided to not grant him a working visa.

A source within the Japanese consulate in Los Angeles told TMZ.com that the Japanese government has “a low tolerance for approving visas with open cases and/or a criminal record.” Last December Brown was also denied a visa to tour Australia due to his conviction for assaulting his former girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009.
