Drake Can’t Make It

An ankle injury has forced Drake to call off a few dates on his “Summer Sixteen Tour.” Rather than nixing the rest of the routing, he’s postponing gigs here and there to allow him time to recuperate.

Drake broke the news in a statement on his website that explains he is “crushed” to announce the postponements because he feels he’s letting fans down.

His Oct. 9 show in Toronto and Oct. 13 performance in Philadelphia are being rescheduled so he won’t have to take the stage three nights in a row. Another change is that his Oct. 8 show in Toronto will now begin at 6:30 p.m. rather than 7. Drake has also postponed the last stop of the tour – Oct. 16 in Newark, N.J.

New dates haven’t been announced yet. According to Ticketmaster, tickets for the postponed shows can be used on the new dates once they are confirmed.

The love that my fans aka my family have shown to me on the Summer Sixteen Tour has been something I won’t ever forget.

We are over 50 shows in and I have done everything to power through my recent ankle injury and leave it all out there on the stage every night. I hate to be told I can’t do something, but under doctor’s orders to allow me time to recuperate, I am being forced to postpone the intense three shows in a row in cities which have only ever shown me unconditional support.

Toronto (my hometown) and Philadelphia (a city that was one of the loudest and showed so much love) are two of the intense three in a row show cycle that will be postponed. I was asked to postpone both Newark shows, but I have yet to perform there and so we compromised at one.

I am crushed to even be typing this announcement because I feel like I am letting my fans in these cities down. I only want to give you the best show you deserve, I promise – I will make it up to you. Thank you for your understanding and I can’t wait to see you all again with new music and a stronger ankle.
