Sum 41 Sets Dates For 2017
The tour goes along with the Canadian rock band’s first new album in more than five and a half years. 13 Voices, which was released last week, is also the first LP to feature both Dave Baksh and Tom Thacker on lead guitar.
A feature from Forbes points out another significant tidbit – the album marks the first release frontman Deryck Whibley wrote sober. The musician revealed in 2014 that he was hospitalized for a month for liver and kidney failure because of alcohol abuse.
Whibley tells Forbes that 13 Voices is “all about my whole journey of falling and rising.”
As far as how the album compares to previous releases, Whibley says, “People ask me, ‘It must be your best record?’ I don’t fu**ing know, that’s not really for me to decide. All I know is that I’m okay with it. To me, it’s great, I love it.”
The North American portion of the “Don’t Call It A Sum-Back Tour” kicked off last week in Orlando. U.S. and Canadian dates are booked until early November, wrapping with a Nov. 6 gig in Los Angeles. December’s itinerary includes performances in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
