Hallett On Board For Essence Festival South Africa Premiere

The festival, which has been celebrating African-American culture in New Orleans since 1994, will see its first South African edition in Durban, Nov. 8-13.

Robomagic’s Rob Hallet is to co-produce the premiere alongside Ben Moseme, CEO of C-Squared Group, and Mike Fuller, managing director of Famous Concerts and veteran of the South African showbiz scene.

The South African premiere of Essence Festival will feature Yolanda, Ne-Yo and Wizkid, as well as homegrown talent including Black Coffee, Cassper Nyovest, Babes Wodumo, Big Nuz and Joyous Celebration.

Hallett said, “Our goal is to repeat the success of New Orleans on an even bigger scale in South Africa. We’ve got some exciting plans for the next few years and I’m looking forward to being a part of the team growing the most important festival in Africa.”

Fuller commented: “We consider it an honor to be involved in staging the inaugural Essence Festival in Durban and are determined to ensure that this first ever Essence Festival on the African continent sets the standard for many years to come.”
