Arena League’s KISS Off

The Arena Football League shrank from nine teams to four within days, as three ceased operations and two others reportedly defected to a competing indoor league.

Among the three to fold is the L.A. KISS, co-owned by Kiss bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, according to the Orange County Register.

The AFL has been on shaky footing for years, canceling its entire season in 2009 in order to retool itself. It fielded 12 teams in 2015. Jacksonville, Fla., and an Arizona franchise are leaving to join the Indoor Football League, which will now have 11 teams.

The AFL has not released a schedule for 2017 or addressed plans for another season.
