Cyndi Lauper Announces 2016 Holiday Benefit Lineup
Mark your calendar for Dec. 3 at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
“For the sixth year, ‘Home for the Holidays’ will bring together an incredible group of performers to support the True Colors Fund’s work to end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth,” Fund co-founder Lauper said. “Our voices are stronger when we say something together. I’m so grateful to the artists, who are donating their time and talent to bring attention to this very important cause.”
The event will also feature Ballets with a Twist, Big Thief, Grace VanderWaal, Judy Gold, Kate Bornstein, Maya Jupiter, Oxymorrons, Sara Ramirez, Theresa Caputo, and Tyler Glenn. Your host is Carson Kressley.
All of the net proceeds from the evening will go to the True Colors Fund.
An announcement about the concert notes that although less than seven percent of the general youth population identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, up to 40 percent of the 1.6 million homeless youth are LGBT. Family rejection due to sexual orientation or gender identity is the most cited reason for the disproportionate rate.
The True Colors Fund’s work in 2016 includes partnering with The White House to conduct a policy briefing on Youth Homelessness, launching the National Youth Forum on Homelessness, and hosting the second annual #40toNoneDay to raise awareness about LGBT youth homelessness.
Tickets for the “Home for the Holidays” show go on sale to the general public Oct. 28 at 10 a.m.
