Lorde’s Producer Wins Two NZ Awards

Lorde’s Grammy-winning, longtime producer and collaborator, Joel Little, won two trophies at the New Zealand Music Artisan Awards Oct. 20 at Auckland City’s Pullman Hotel.  

The ceremony precedes the major Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards at Auckland’s  Nov. 17. Little won both the producer and engineer categories. He took the producer gong in 2014 for Lorde’s global breakthrough debut Pure Heroine and its chart-topping “Royals.”

This time it was for his work with sibling electro-pop duo Broods’ second album, Conscious. Broods have a leading five nominations for the Nov. 17 event. Little, who is now based in Los Angeles and producing acts such as Tove Lo and Imagine Dragons, is not as involved in the second Lorde album. The artist is experimenting with different sounds and different producers.

“I’m eagerly waiting to see what she comes up with,” he said. “It’ll be ready when she feels ready.” Other winners were video producer Chris Lane for best music video (“Inside Out” by folk-pop band Avalanche City) and artist Anns Taylor for the cover art of
