Valerie June In Winter

Songstress Valerie June has a new album coming out in January, and she is spending two months on the road to introduce North American audiences to the new tunes.

The new dates start in Boston Feb. 7 at the  and move through the regional Northeast, South and Midwest. The last gig is currently booked for March 11 at  in New York, where the artist currently takes residence.

The new album, planned for Jan. 27, is called The Order of Time and follows 2013’s Pushin’ Against a Stone. The opening track “Astral Plane” was released through NPR last week. Check it out below.

The singer has two more gigs with Norah Jones this week and California and plays  in Michigan Jan. 27.

A Pollstar HotStar in 2014, June blends indie, folk, blues and gospel into her sound. She has collaborated with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Booker T. Jones and has opened for Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Head And The Heart, and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings.

Originally from Tennessee, June grew up singing in church and told InStyle magazine it took time to incorporate her many influences.

“It’s a good thing my church didn’t have a choir, because I probably never would’ve been accepted—my voice was so wild; it didn’t fit in anywhere. I jump around. I don’t really sing in a structured, tamed way,” she said.

She also comments in that interview how she is often known for her look, in which she wears her lengthy dreadlocks up.
