Cyndi Lauper & Blondie Team Up

Cyndi Lauper and Blondie are joining forces for a co-headline tour that’s set to hit Australia in April. The pairing is pretty much perfect. After all, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

“Blondie were the true trailblazers of the New York City new wave and punk scenes. As a young artist they had such a big impact on me,” Lauper said. “I just thought that Debbie was so cool. She is still a hero of mine. I’m so excited to do this tour of Australia with them. We are going to have a blast!”

Debbie Harry added, “You can’t miss this show. The bitches are coming back to make it happen just like they do it everywhere. All the songs and music you want to hear from us and much much more.  … We’re looking to have the best tour in OZ ever!”

Along with “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Lauper will most likely be delighting fans with hits like “Time After Time,” “She Bop” and “All Through The Night.” Perhaps she’ll perform a tune or two from her new album, Detour, which features her take on country songs originally recorded by the likes of Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton.

A review from Rolling Stone declares, “Aging rock and pop stars often seek a late-career safe harbor in country music, but 62-year-old Cyndi Lauper tackles the genre with characteristically daring eccentricity. Rather than dully respecting the vintage material she covers here, much of which dates back to the Fifties, she dotes on it, downplaying neither her goofball humor or New Yawk accent.”

Harry & Co. will also have some new music to show off. Blondie – which also features guitarist/songwriter Chris Stein and drummer Clem Burke – just completed a yet-untitled album due out in March as the follow-up to 2011’s Panic of Girls.

Finger crossed Blondie’s setlist also includes hits like “The Tide Is High,” “Call Me,” “Rapture,” “Picture This” and “Hanging On The Telephone.”
