Insurer Sues After Studio Fire

After paying out millions when an arson fire destroyed a Memphis recording studio, an insurance company wants its money back, saying the missing equipment never existed.

Tattooed Millionaire Entertainment LLC recorded rock music at the former House of Blues recording studio in Memphis until it was set ablaze in November last year, causing a claimed $2.8 million in damages.

Hanover American Insurance Co. looked into the matter after paying out and is now suing Tattooed Millionaire owner Christopher Brown, along with two individuals who took out insurance policies while leasing the studio.

Hanover claims none of the equipment listed in the receipts provided was discovered in the studio after the fire and that the companies that supposedly sold the equipment didn’t recognize the receipts as legitimate.

The defendants had previously stated the equipment was stolen but have not commented since the suit was filed. Police and fire authorities said there was no evidence the plaintiffs, who were on vacation during the fire, were responsible for it, the Commercial Appeal reported.

In total, Hanover claims that $10.5 million of the recording equipment insured was not real. It is suing Brown for the $2.3 million it paid him and the two other defendants for the $250,000 it paid each.
