Dixie Chicks Headed To Canada

After wrapping up 2016’s tour plans with a gig at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl in October, the Dixie Chicks made headlines last week for teaming up with Beyoncé for a performance of “Daddy Lessons” on the “CMA Awards.” The Dixie Chicks had recently been covering the tune, which hails from Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, on tour.

In response to the online backlash over the collaboration, the New York Times’ Jon Caramanica writes: “Beyoncé was not only bringing country-soul to the CMA’s – and reasserting the vital place black performers have had in American roots music. Her alliance with the Dixie Chicks, country pariahs for so long for their outspoken, nonconservative politics, on the stage of country music’s most prestigious awards show, was a robust victory for tolerance. The online discourse that followed reflected no appreciation for that historical victory – only a sense of violation and injury caused by myopia and fear.”
