New ED For Australian Managers
Based in Queensland, de Souza is managing, or managed, singer-songwriters Kate Miller-Heidke, Katie Noonan and Thelma Plum and rock bands The Medics, George, and Stringmansassy.
Currently founder and director of the Rock and Roll Writers Festival and founding board member of Queensland’s peak music association QMusic, de Souza was also executive programmer for the BIGSOUND conference and showcase, and a lecturer of music business at Griffith University, TAFE and JMC Academy.
“I truly believe managers are the unsung heroes of the business – their ability to nurture artists and traverse a complex industry makes them vital,” de Souza said. “Taking on the role of executive director for the AAM is a privilege and I am excited to be working with an experienced board to represent, protect and promote the interests of Australian music managers over the next three years.”
A member of the International Music Managers Forum, the AAM also announced the 2016 instalment of its key program, the Artist Management Mentor Program. Six senior managers will provide one-on-one mentoring to six emerging managers for between six to 12 months. They will be flown to Melbourne to attend the Face The Music conference Nov. 17-18, and participate in a full day management roundtable with their mentors.
