Superfly, Another Planet And Comedy

Comedy Central is entering the festival business, having announced a project with two of the main promoters of Outside Lands in San Francisco next summer.

Comedy Central, APE and Superfly will be collaborating to create a destination comedy festival, a representative of Another Planet confirmed to Pollstar. This would be Comedy Central’s first foray into the festival business.

The festival date is not known and representatives declined to provide further details. “The festival will bring together top comedy, amazing music and a culinary lineup for a dynamic cultural experience,” Chad Issaq, Superfly EVP of Business Development and Partnerships, told Deadline. “[San Francisco] has an incredible comedy legacy and a very active community of fans; there are a lot of comedians who come out of San Francisco. … [and] for people who have to travel, it’s a great destination to travel to.”

Comedy Central President Kent Alterman said the event would be less industry driven and more of a fan-driven event for comedy “super fans.” Comedy festivals have been in short supply in the U.S. since HBO stopped putting on the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen in 2007.
