Northwesterners Open Promotion Company

The owner of two Montana clubs has founded a promotion and production company to serve the Northwestern U.S.

The company, Logjam Presents, will be helmed by Nick Checota, the owner and former talent buyer for Missoula venues  and  theater.

Checota already has a staff of seven and officers including Dan Torti as VP of operations and Ryan Torres as VP of marketing and promotion. The plan, Checota said, had been to start the promotion company for some time now. He invested more than $1 million into sound, lighting and building renovations at the The Wilma, which reopened last year with a performance from My Morning Jacket.

Logjam has established booking relationships with the  in Bozeman, Mont., and  in Missoula.

The Wilma and Top Hat alone are booking 150 shows a year, Checota said. Plans are to expand Logjam’s reach in the greater Northwest region.

The company is based in the same building as the Top Hat, but functions independently with its own staff, and even rents the rooms from the Checota-owned venues, he said.

“A lot of the promoters that work in this region, the Northwest region, are headquartered in other markets,” Checota told Pollstar. “We feel this market is unique and having a presence here really gives us an advantage in understanding the types of music this market wants to see and the types of entertainment this market wants to buy.”
