Laura Marling Is Always A Lady

Laura Marling is playing theatres across North America this spring in promotion of her upcoming album. Whether in a performance on “A Prairie Home Companion” or her directorial debut though, her new material reflects on themes of femininity.

The singer’s routing opens April 30 at San Francisco’s The Fillmore and moves through the regional Midwest and Northeast, ending at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. on May 21.

Marling will be in her native United Kingdom for most of March. The next spot you can catch her is at Glasgow, Scotland, at the Celtic Connections Festival on Jan. 19.

The “Prairie Home Companion” performance with Chris Thile, Andrew Bird and Beth Stelling is Jan. 14, and will be broadcast live from The Symphony Theater in Chicago from 5-7 p.m. local time.

Her new album, Semper Femina, is described as “not a concept record per se,” but an LP with explorations of womanhood and femininity woven throughout from different angles. Her second single from the album, “Wild Fire,” was recently made available for listening. The music video for the project’s first single, “Soothing,” was also her directorial debut.

Laura has earned praise from many publications for her rich voice and presence. “Marling’s songs dig well beyond the everyday, with each sung in a wise, dusky, brooding voice that always seems in control of its surroundings,” NPR music wrote.
