Pollstar Live! Updates

As the clock ticks down to the launch of Pollstar Live! and Production Live! in Los Angeles, we have a few final updates on the conference package, including revealing the “surprise” performance at the awards show.

The Pollstar Awards have had a recent tradition of starting off with a live performance revealed at the show, from acts like Here Come The Mummies,

Obviously, the beloved Dio has passed on but he continues to perform in hologram form. The show is the focus of a panel, “The Hologram Experience,” earlier that same day, Feb. 2, featuring Wendy Dio,

However, it’s not easy to put an entire holographic production into a hotel meeting room but everybody will get to see it that evening at The Novo.

Speaking of the awards show, a few presenters are already on board: Boy George, Toto’s Steve Lukather and Steve Porcaro, Plain White T’s, Jim Messina, and Killer Bee. The show itself is hosted by TV emcee and magician Justin Willman and will be streamed on Pollstar.com and PollstarPro.com.

Meanwhile, there are a few last-minute additions to the conference. The Production Live panel “A Rock Star In Conversation with A Musician” – the clever title referencing production wiz Chuck (“Rock Star”) Randall – now has a musician: Billy Duffy from The Cult. The Jan. 31 panel will be hosted by some dude who likes to put his byline on stories about Pollstar Live. Deborah Speer, associate editor for the Pollstar news team, has a similar role for the Women’s Leadership Forum Feb. 1.
