Holliday Retires From Slim’s, GAMH

Dawn Holliday, the general manager of Slim’s and Great American Music Hall, has retired after 28 years at the helm of the two San Francisco mainstays.

She will remain a key contributor to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, the massive, three-day Golden Gate Park festival that she developed in 2001 with the late financier Warren Hellman.

The owners and board of directors of the two clubs made the announcement Feb. 1.

“On behalf of us all, the owners and staff, and countless people Dawn has worked with, and the multitudes of musicians and fans alike who have been touched by her stewardship of our clubs and the festival, we pay our highest respects and deepest gratitude and wish for her the very best as she pursues her visions of beautiful music with the festival,” musician Boz Scaggs, who co-founded the clubs, said in a statement.

Hellman died in 2011, but left an endowment to fund the free festival for years to come.
