BBC Live Music Head Leaves

Jason Carter, who was with BBC for almost 20 years and launched its new-talent initiative Introducing among other live music events, has announced his departure.

Carter joined the BBC in 1997, launched the Introducing format in 2007 with an own stage at Glastonbury. The initiative has “championed more than 600 new artists with some unique opportunities to date,” Carter’s bio reads.

He was appointed head of popular music, live music and events in 2012 and was responsible for delivering all of the BBC’s live music events and concert coverage across BBC Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra, Radio 2 and 6 Music.

These included Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, 1Xtra Live, the Radio 1 Teen Awards and the 6 Music Festival. According to Music Business Worldwide, Carter will join Amazon, where he’ll become “Director of a new initiative at the company.”
