Democrat Debbie Stabenow is up for re-election in 2018, and she has held the seat since 2000, but Republicans, emboldened by Donald Trump’s victory in the state, are considering the “Cowboy” singer to represent the state in the Senate.
Trump’s win in the GOP election was the first time a Republican presidential candidate won Michigan in 28 years. The buzz surrounding Kid Rock was generated at the Michigan Republican Party state convention on Feb. 11 in Lansing, The Detroit Free Press reported.
The artist’s name was kicked around as a means of shedding the “stodgy Republican image,” though other career politicians were also being considered, the paper reported.
Kid Rock has not yet issued any public comment about wanting to run for office, but with the already-announced intentions of Kanye West to run for president of the U.S. in 2020, anything seems to be possible.
