As a video depicting David Cassidy slurring his words and falling from the stage makes the rounds, the “Partridge Family” star says he has dementia.

Evidently dementia runs in Cassidy’s family. The 66-year-old singer / actor told People magazine that he watched his grandfather battle the disease and saw his mother “disappear” into the ailment that can scramble a person’s memories.

Cassidy also said his having dementia was the reason he announced his retirement from touring.

“I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” Cassidy said. “I want to love. I want to enjoy life.”

Cassidy’s announcement counters TMZ’s earlier news item and video showing Cassidy during a performance at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, Calif., where he reportedly slurred his speech and apparently falling off of the stage during a song.
