Boston Teams With Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

For those of you with Boston on the mind, we’ve got something even tastier than a slice of Boston cream pie or a serving of Boston baked beans. Tom Scholz and the band just announced a new run of U.S. tour dates, featuring Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

The summer excursion is part of Boston’s 2017 “Hyper Space Tour,” which promises more than 50 gigs in total. The trek kicks off April 14 in Hollywood, Fla.

The new leg with Jett & The Blackhearts begins June 14 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif., and concludes July 30 in Bristow, Va.

“I am thrilled to have Joan and her band on tour with us this summer,” Scholz says. “Not only is she an amazing rock ’n’ roll performing artist, but even more exciting to me is that she is a fellow vegetarian and shares compassion for animal welfare.”

Along with Scholz, 30-year Boston veteran Gary Pihl is a longtime vegetarian.

With regards to animal welfare, Boston is putting its money where its mouth is. The band is continuing its efforts to promote humane treatment for animals by donating one dollar from every ticket sold on the tour to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Mercy For Animals. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s mission is “to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and spices.” Mercy For Animals is “dedicated to preventing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices and policies.”
