Alibaba Acquires Beijing Ticketing Platform
Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd., China’s biggest online retailer, has acquired Damai.cn, an online ticketing platform based in Beijing.
According to China Money Network, Damai will work with Alibaba’s music division to connect music apps to concert tickets.
In November, Alibaba created a culture and entertainment group to handle a number of acquisitions and creations in its group, including Alibaba Pictures, Alibaba Music, Alibaba Sports and Alibaba Digital Entertainment.
One of the company’s vice presidents, Zhang Yu, will be appointed the new CEO of Damai, which was founded in 2004 to sell tickets for concerts, plays, operas and sporting events.
Damai claims to have hundreds of millions of registered users and to have sold tickets to more than 1.8 million events in 330 cities.
