Variety Taps Halperin

Variety has confirmed that it has hired Shirley Halperin, news director and music editor for Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, respectively.

Halperin’s new title is Executive Editor, Music, “signaling the entertainment publication’s launch of a new initiative to cover the music and live entertainment businesses,” the trade mag said.

Variety has also recruited Billboard associate Jem Aswad who is being named senior music editor.

The two have worked alongside each other for three years. Halperin will be based in Los Angeles; Aswad, New York.
