All-Star Lineup To Play Little Feat’s ‘Waiting’
Blackbird Presents is at it again, recreating some of rock’s best music with grade-A musicians for special showcases. The company is putting on a full performance of Little Feat’s “Waiting For Columbus” live album, with Warren Haynes serving as the musical co-director with Don Was.
The lineup for the performance includes Haynes, Jamey Johnson, Terence Higgins, Dave Malone, Mark Mullins, John Medeski, Was and more special guests to be announced. “New Orleans Is Waiting For Columbus” shares many musicians with another Blackbird Presents production, “The Last Waltz 40 Tour,” a celebration of The Band’s iconic farewell concert.
The May 6 event is part of Blackbird’s concert series at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. This August marks 40 years since Little Feat’s iconic live album was recorded in London and Washington, D.C. It includes songs like “Dixie Chicken,” “Fat Man in the Bathtub” and “Time Loves a Hero.”
Pollstar had the chance to chat with Blackbird Presents CEO Keith Wortman, who is producing this event, in January. In that interview, he described the company as “not so much a promoter as we are a creator and producer. Blackbird Presents is considered a leader in creation and production of large scale, all-star, concert celebrations. It’s a company that started doing shows honoring our favoring music artists and doing it by bringing out a who’s who of today’s best artists to perform that music.”
Tickets to “New Orleans Is Waiting For Columbus” go on sale March 31 at 10 a.m. CDT.
