Zhou Libo pleaded not guilty to the charges in Nassau County Court, where about a dozen Chinese reporters were present, with whom the comedian joked. He even posed for cellphone videos with his lawyer.

According to the police report, Zhou was driving a black Mercedes Benz “erratically” while on the phone a little after midnight on the day in question. Reportedly, Zhou had a passenger.

Officers noticed a shoulder holster in the back seat and allegedly found a loaded pistol and two bags of crack cocaine inside a backpack.

Both Zhou and the passenger were arrested. The comedian’s attorney refused to comment on the case after it was adjourned to June 9, but he did say that Zhou is “taking the charges seriously. He has confidence in the judicial system and in his lawyer.”

Zhou is said to have a residence in New Jersey and police did not say why he was in the exclusive Long Island community.

Last July, Zhou, who is from Shanghai, performed one of his standup routines at , which advertised him as a “pioneer of political parody” in China.

He received a Starlight Award in 2012 for a TV show he appeared in. He also served as a judge for “China’s Got Talent” in 2010 and 2011.
