Metallica Confirms Final Summer Tour Gig

Metallica has one more city to visit in July. The rockers just announced a benefit show in Newton, Iowa, and noting it will be the final addition to the summer leg of the “WorldWired” tour.

The metal band is playing the Iowa Speedway in Newton on July 9 to benefit The Native Fund. Like the other stops on the tour, the show will feature support from Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat. A post on Metallica’s website explains that charity was founded by Ashton Kutcher and former NFL tight end Dallas Clark to give back to the local residents of their home state.

The Native Fund assists Iowans suffering from a natural disasters, post-9/11 veterans who need medical or other assistance, and children afflicted with life-threatening illness or disease.

After touring Mexico and South America in March, Metallica hits the road in North America May 10.

The band is supporting its 10th studio album, Hardwired … to Self-Destruct.

Metallica is also appearing at Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco. The Aug. 11-13 event hasn’t announced its daily lineup yet. A few days before that, the San Francisco Giants is hosting its annual “Metallica Night” at AT&T Park on Aug. 7. An announcement on the band’s website says, “As has become custom, the night will kick off with the National Anthem and first pitch, then we’ll be on hand all night to cheer on the orange and black as we take part of some of the between innings festivities.”

A Fifth Members presale for the Native Fund gig begins April 19 at 9 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public April 21 at 10 a.m. All times local.
