Following Hospital Stay, Elton John Cancels Dates

Elton John is being forced to cancel the next few weeks of performances so he can recover after contracting a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection” while on tour in South America.

The English superstar was released from the hospital on Saturday and is now resting at home. He spent two nights in intensive care and an extended stay in the hospital after becoming “violently ill” on his flight back to the U.K. from Santiago, Chile.

An announcement sent out from AEG Live explains that “infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly.” Thankfully, Elton is expected to make a full recovery.

The legendary singer/songwriter is canceling all of the shows on the April-May run of his Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. “The Million Dollar Piano” performances were scheduled April 25-26, 28-29, May 1, 3-5. He’s also called off his concert at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, Calif., which was originally scheduled April 22 and then postponed to May 6.

Elton is due back on stage June 3 in Twickenham, England.
