“The Great Circle 2017” marks the first tour for the Australian alternative rock band in 15 years. The outing began with a club gig in the band’s hometown of Sydney and then headed to South America for five nights in Brazil.

The U.S. portion of the trek kicked off May 6 in Atlanta.

The new gigs are scheduled Aug. 19 at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, Aug. 21 at New York’s  Terminal 5, Aug. 27 at Cleveland’s House Of Blues, and Aug. 29 at Minneapolis’ First Avenue.

Midnight Oil has previously announced shows booked at New York’s Webster Hall May 13 and Los Angeles’ The Wiltern May 25, which sold out in minutes after going on sale in February.

A news blast from the band explains that the extra gigs were added with fans – and scalpers – in mind: “This unusual decision to announce return plays in those two cities before the first gigs have even happened is driven by the band’s desire to frustrate scalpers. Rather than paying inflated prices via resellers to attend the imminent May shows, fans now have the option of buying normal tickets to attend these summer dates.”

To go along with the tour, Midnight Oil is releasing The Full Tank, a remastered CD box set featuring all of its albums and EPs, along with a four CD/eight DVD collection called The Overflow Tank with 14 hours of previously unreleased and rare material. Plus, the band is releasing its first-ever complete vinyl collection. The collections are set for released May 26 in Europe. The Tanks sets come out May 26 in the U.S. and Canada, followed by the North American release of the vinyl edition on June 9. An artist presale for the new dates is ongoing. Additional presales are scheduled this week. Tickets go on sale to the general public May 12 at 10 a.m. local time. Check with your local venue for more information.
