Mazzy Star’s Keith Mitchell Dies

Mazzy Star drummer Keith Mitchell died May 14, according to Rolling Stone. Details, including a cause of death and his age, were unclear at press time.   

Mitchell performed on all four of the band’s albums. Mazzy Star made its debut with 1990’s She Hangs Brightly and is best known for the single “Fade Into You,” which is included on its sophomore effort, So Tonight That I Might See.

The drummer was a member of the pre-Mazzy Star group Opal, which included Mazzy Star guitarist David Roback.

“Our hearts are broken,” Mazzy Star posted on Facebook May 15. “We have lost the much beloved Keith Mitchell, a very talented and amazing drummer that we have had the privilege to work with for many years, he will live in all of our hearts forever… We’ll miss you Big Fella.”

Mazzy Star’s most recent album is 2013’s Seasons Of Your Day.
