Pixies is continuing to support its 2016 album, Head Carrier. The release is the second full-length effort since the alternative rock band reunited in 2004 and the first to feature bassist Paz Lenchantin throughout the album. She contributed bass and backing vocals on the deluxe edition tracks of 2014’s Indie Cindy, as well as the song “Women of War.”
“Joey Santiago’s guitar is as melodic and muscular as ever, while Black Francis showcases his throaty assault on ‘Baal’s Back.’” Rolling Stone’s Keith Harris writes in a review of Head Carrier. “New bassist Paz Lenchantin’s low-end thump owes plenty to Kim Deal, the co-founder she replaced, but her bright harmonies bring a fresh wrinkle, perking up the thrashy ‘Um Chagga Lagga’ and adding poignance to ‘All I Think About Now,’ an expression of gratitude to her beloved predecessor.”
The ongoing North American tour continues with tonight’s show in Washington, D.C., the first of two gigs at the Lincoln Theatre.
The third leg launches in Portland, Ore., with a two-night stand at the Roseland Theater Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The routing includes stops in Seattle, Vancouver, Oakland, Napa and San Jose.
Tickets go on sale May 19 at 10 a.m. PDT. An announcement from Pixies notes that presales are not being held due to the band’s “ongoing effort to thwart ticket scalping and put as many show tickets as possible into the hands of Pixies fans.”
