Marshmello
He launched in March 2015 with a handful of tracks and remixes that earned him “Breakthrough Artist” status from Beatport and a blitz of exposure from major EDM media outlets and word-of-mouth from fans dubbed his “Mellogang.”
Dance superstars like Skrillex and Diplo came calling for collaborations, including the hit “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber. He’s also done remixes for stars including Avicii, Zedd, and Ariana Grande.
But as agent Steve Gordon of Circle Talent Agency told Pollstar, “A lot of what’s going on in dance music is about supply and demand. In the band world, there’s an album cycle. These artists don’t have album cycles. They have demand cycles.”
And Marshmello is definitely in demand. Starting with a purposeful series of underplays at small hard-ticket venues like Denver’s Bluebird Theatre and Austin’s Vulcan Gas Company – both 500-seaters – Gordon and manager Moe Shalizi of Red Light Management have moved him to mega-festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Hangout.
In between festivals, Marshmello is holding down high-profile club gigs at Vegas nightclubs like Intrigue at the Wynn, Encore Beach Club and Xs. And there are more hard-ticket appearances to come.
“I’m going to be taking a very creative approach to touring,” Gordon said. “I’m targeting creative GA spaces where there are no fixed seats so I can kinda maintain the vibe and energy. I’m working with Live Nation and AEG and the strong independent guys to make that happen from a national perspective.”
