Savannah Plans New Arena
Savannah, Ga. is proposing the construction of a new arena west of the city’s downtown area.
The city proposed a $1.7 million design cost for a new public works complex to relocate city departments from the planned arena site, The Savannah Morning News reported.
The new arena will cost an estimated $140 million and is planned to be completed by 2021.
The city is also planning on developing a Canal District – a 55-acre park with walking and biking paths trails – around the arena. The new district is estimated to cost around $41.5 million.
“This council has made it abundantly clear to me that we are committed to moving forward with the arena, one way or the other,” City Manager Rob Hernandez told the city council.
