Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy Keeps Rocking

Carl Palmer will continue showing off his acclaimed drum skills with a second leg of North American dates for Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy in the fall. The group is also headed to the United Kingdom in November.

Since launching his 2017 tour in February, Palmer has been paying tribute to his Emerson, Lake & Palmer bandmates. Keyboardist Keith Emerson died in March 2016 and singer, bassist and producer Greg Lake died in December.

“I will deeply miss Keith and Greg, both of whom the world lost in 2016. It is now down to me to carry on flying the ELP banner and I will be playing that great music with my band for many years to come. The outpouring of support from ELP’s fans has been astounding, so, I felt I owed it to them to continue the music we made as a group,” Palmer said in a statement.

The setlist for the 2017 world tour features “instrumental hits of ELP completely reinvented for guitar, bass and drums, from Tarkus to Brain Salad Surgery to Pictures at an Exhibition, along with other great musical works,” according to a promotional video.

Up next for Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy is a support slot on Yes’ “Yestival” tour, which also features Todd Rundgren on select dates. The excursion kicks off Aug. 4 in Greensboro, N.C., at the White Oak Amphitheatre At Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Palmer’s second leg of North American headline dates begins Sept. 28 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Cities on the routing include Columbus, Ohio; Fall River, Mass.; New York; Brampton, Ontario; and Markham, Ontario.

The U.K. headline tour launches Nov. 17 in St. Helens, England.

In addition to being a founding member of ELP, Palmer is also the original drummer of Asia. You can catch that band on tour this year with Journey and Foreigner.

Pre-orders are ongoing for Fanfare: Emerson, Lake & Palmer 1970-1997. The box set includes all 11 of ELP’s remastered albums, five previously unreleased CDs of never issued recordings, a 40-page hardback book with rare band photos, and more.
