Kasami Washington Spreads Harmony

Kamasi Washington will enlighten audiences this fall with a tour supporting his upcoming EP, Harmony of Difference.

The dates kick off Nov. 7 in Milwaukee and will make stops in Chicago, Detroit, Boston and Atlanta.  The tour concludes Dec. 11 at the New Daisy Theatre in Memphis, Tenn.

The EP marks Washington’s first release since his debut in 2015. Out Sept. 29 via Young Turks, the new music premiers as part of the Whitney Museum of American Art along with artwork by Washington’s sister. The EP is divided into six parts and explores the musical technique of “counterpoint,” which Washington defines as “the art of balancing similarity and difference to create harmony between separate melodies.

“My hope is that witnessing the beautiful harmony created by merging different musical melodies will help people realize the beauty in our own lives,” Washington said in a statement.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 4
