Rosenberg Named Def Jam CEO

Artist manager and record executive Paul Rosenberg has been named CEO of Def Jam Recordings, Universal Music Group announced Aug. 3.

Rosenberg is the founder and CEO of artist management firm Goliath Artists, which handles the careers of Eminem, Danny Brown and other rap stars.

Rosenberg is also president of Eminem’s Shady Records, which has released albums by the likes of 50 cent, D12 and others.

Steve Bartels, who will step down as Def Jam CEO, will remain with the company until the end of the year, according to a UMG statement.

Rosenberg will report to UMG chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge, who added, “I would like to thank Steve Bartels for his sound leadership of Def Jam since 2014 when the label returned to its roots as a standalone company within UMG. During that time, Steve played a pivotal role in the success of Kanye West, J ustin Bieber, Big Sean and most recently breaking Goliath Artists, among many others.”

“It’s a dream come true to be able to be a part of the next chapter in the label’s storied legacy,” Rosenberg stated.
