Verizon Center Now Capital One Arena

Washington, D.C.’s Verizon Center, home to the NBA’s Wizards and NHL’s Capitals, is now called

The change was announced Aug. 9, as well as a $40 million investment in the arena by Monumental Sports & Entertainment.

Monumental is majority owner of the arena and the teams; Capital One founder, chairman and CEO Richard Fairbank is a minority owner of Monumental.

Financial terms or length of the new naming rights agreement were not disclosed.

The arena was previously known as MCI Center before Verizon brought MCI in 2006.
